People First night at the Henry County Fair held at heritage park this year ( a new location) The Henry County Kiwanis Club invited our special needs families to come and join them on Wednesday night, October 8, starting at 6 when the gates open. The admission for the fair will be free if you are on my list as you check in the night of the fair. You and our immediate family will be able to enter the fair free. (cost is usually about $6.00 a person just to enter). This amount will be donated by the Henry County Kiwanis Club as long as you are on my list as you check in. I will be at the gate from 6:00 to 7:00 PM only, then I am off to enjoy the fair. So you must arrive by 7:00 to get in free.
You will need money for ride bracelets, food, and games, but your entry fee will be waived. I hope each of you will come out and join us next Wednesdaynight. (Oct. 8th) There are several things at the fair free. The exhibits, non-profit booths, 4-H exhibits, the Camp Fortson farm, music and more. Come out and enjoy a nice cool evening at the Henry County Fair. We appreciate each of you and what you mean to our community.
Thanks, Connie, Joan, Tina, and Cynthia

Advocacy Training - Tuesday, July 22. Peachtree City, GA
Whether or not you agree with Autism Speaks or not, they are providing a FREE training about advocacy.
Advocacy in this context means - how do you change the world for the better through influencing legislation?
Shelley, the presenter, promised me that this is part training, part comedy routine, which is good.
In my experience, many grassroots advocacy training programs comes from a sense of urgency (fear) or decorum (boring).
Even if you don't have a loved one affected by Autism, I'm hoping she'll talk about the process of changing laws. But if you want to hang back til next time, that's fine - I think she's coming back in the fall.
If you're coming, make sure your RSVP. There's no childcare at this event (I'm in the same boat as you - I'm bringing my kids and hoping for the best.) RSVP at http://bit.ly/ASBTB-GA
See you there! We could go to Mellow Mushroom for lunch afterwards....

The kids don't need to bring anything, but they can bring a glove if they want. Parents may want to bring chairs incase we have a lot of visitors and kids. 5PM - everyone. We order/pick up pizza at 6.
I'm still trying to work out details for more play groups for the rest of the summer - it has proven difficult to try to organize since I'm recovering (nicely) from surgery 2 weeks ago. But stay tuned, and watch for pop up play dates on facebook and on the website calendar. www.southsidesupport.org
The next event that we'll be at with Safe Space is the Fayetteville Market Day on July 19. We're always looking for volunteers to help set up, take down, and hang with.
