The Story Behind Magic Soup
The origins of Southside Magic Soup are when a Southside family with three kids had some chronic illness, Raissa made some soup. She threw in a lot of ginger, onion, garlic, and bok choy – because that’s what her mom threw into soup when her kids were sick.
Apparently it worked. The soup (ground down to go through g-tube) helped the family’s kids and started rumors that Raissa created “magic soup”. Whenever families are sick along the Southside, sometimes soup gets delivered (this is called a drive-by souping).
Over the years, we’ve discovered that while Raissa’s is a basic soup, Kerstin’s Magic Soup really is magic. (Built with love and blessings). In either case, please don’t use the soup in lieu of sound medical advice. But, it’s a good warm up to a cold day.
